The Best Tasting Roasted Coffee Beans

coffee shop

Coffee beans are green when harvested.  These raw coffee beans are then roasted then ground into the form of coffee that many of us commonly find in stores and coffee shops.  As a matter of fact, almost everyone who has tasted coffee has encountered both a fantastic and a horrible cup of coffee.  Come to think of it.  Since one can actually do everything from growing coffee to buying instant coffee which only requires hot water, it is not unusual that the quality of coffee can extremely differ from one to another.

More often than not, price cannot have much bearing on quality.  I have experienced spending a lot of money for a brand name instant coffee that tasted worse than the cheaper ground coffee next to it on the shelf. Some expensive coffee variety may cost more than the store-brand, but if that expensive coffee is old stock and stale, the cheaper brand of coffee may taste better.  One problem with coffee bought in supermarkets is that you are never really sure how old the roasted coffee beans were, when these beans were ground, and how long ago the beans were sitting on the shelf—these factors can make or break the flavor and quality of coffee.

The freshness of roasted coffee beans last for about a month, therefore the coffee you buy in the store must have been roasted around that time.  Ground coffee is fresh at the moment of grinding; it should immediately be used right after being ground.  Although vacuum packing may retain practically much of the freshness, but coffee aficionados know too well that only freshly ground from bean to brew can produce a better cup of coffee than those take from packaged version that has sat on the shelf for an unknown length of time.

If you’re buying whole roasted coffee beans, you will know its age by the label on the packaging.  If there’s no way for carbon dioxide to leak from the package then the beans have sat for some days prior to packing.  If the way they are packaged does makes it possible for this release, then they were likely packaged immediately and may be fresher, providing you are able to buy them immediately.

While they’re generally considered fresh for thirty days, genuine coffee lovers would say that only 3 days is the window to get its optimum coffee flavor.  After 3 days, the fresh roasted coffee beans will begin losing their natural aromatic oils. So, if you really want the best coffee possible and you have the time, you may buy green coffee beans and do the roasting yourself at home.

Limo Helps Coffee Shop Attract Customers

coffee shop

I have a coffee shop, and I’m in an attempt to compete against the big ones. Monday’s limo suggested me something: If I use the resources available to small businessmen, I can make waves that will bring the customers in. Moreover, I called around town and found a really good deal that not all limo companies require you to rent for a full day.

Enough said.

The thing is, it’s hard to get noticed in an over-saturated town like Los Angeles. Everyone, everything is screaming for attention. How could make a splash to get a piece of that pie — and some new customers? My wife (yes, honey, you were right again) came up with a plan.

I should rent some limos.

What a great idea. Nothing attracts attention like a limo, and you can get people to look without making loads of annoying noise.

So I got my employees together, told them to come to work on Monday in their classiest clothes and makeup, and rented an awesome fleet of limos.

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to afford the expense, but really, when it comes to growing a business, marketing isn’t an expense. It’s an investment. Plus, I called around town and found a really good deal. Not all limo companies require you to rent for a full day. By renting for just a few hours — enough to make a splash — I was able to get my company’s name out and still stay within budget.

So Monday rolled around, and my staff and I were dressed like we were headed for the Oscars. We climbed into the limos that had discreet window signs advertising the coffee shop.

When we made it to the front of the store, a red carpet was waiting, along with a long line of curious onlookers. You probably guessed by now that they didn’t stay onlookers for long. They became clients in double quick time.

We could have done the same thing with regular cars, I guess, and drive around with signs on the windows. Cars, though, they don’t say the same thing as limos. They say, “Yeah! I passed my driver’s test.” A limo says something completely different. It says, “I am here. I have made it. I am a contender — no, a winner.”

Yeah, I am a winner.

Travel Guide to Penang Malaysia Shopping – An Inexpensive Shopping Experience

stop shop

Penang, trading center of the North, with a population of nearly 1.8 Million within the State of Penang, island and the mainland, this is a true shoppers paradise.

Ever since the first merchants arrived on this little island, trade has blossomed. Penang, because of its harbor position is often the source to all goods shipped into Malaysia and this part of the world.

The overspill can be found in the streets of Penang, because of its rather small heritage and colonial buildings, often shops are small or tiny compared to the large shopping complexes in the major cities like KL and Petaling Jaya. This gives the city a natural flair of bustling trade. Many small specialized work shops offer their services too. Especially the colonial Heritage District will pleasure every visitor for many days.

Georgetown

The heart of Pulau Penang where it all begun, UNESCO’s title as world heritage city, brings curiosity, travelers and shoppers to this part of Malaysia. The Heritage District is cornered by three main landmarks and the sea, the Ferry Terminal, The 65 story Menara Komtar tower and the Cititel Hotel at Upper Penang Road. Within this zone travelers find amazing shopping opportunities, and bargains can be found in all nooks and crannies. The Komtar building is hosting one large (Praganin) mall and two smaller shopping complexes which are all interlinked at various levels by wide walk ways and corridors, and one can see that reconstruction is still taking place to upgrade this area as the premium shopping area in this part of the city. In and around the Heritage District s lots of shops appealing to the traveler can be found, small libraries and bookshops, local eateries, antique and souvenir shops, guesthouses, and money changers. This is definitely the prime tourist shopping location, some roads to venture on, Jalan Penang, Lebuh Campbell, Lebuh Chulia, Lebuh Kapitan Keling and Lebuh Pantai (Beach Road).

New WorldPark

At Jalan Laut the New World Park can be found, not a very large mall but well worth the visit. Covered and also partially open air shopping center, with a central stage where live performances are held on a regular basis, Next to the NWP is a large covered food court where all local and foreign delicacies can be found.

Close to any shopping area, food is never far away, and trendy eateries, side walk café’s and bars, will even more enlighten the shopping spree.

Nervous About Coffee: Cup O’ Mud? It Was Ground This Morning

Or, it can be the most affordable instant, right off the supermarket shelf. You know, like the one with the picture of TV personality/Home Renovator extraordinaire Mike Holmes on the label?

The Many Faces of Coffee

There are so many ways to have your coffee it is mind boggling. Coffee Houses spring up on every corner in major cities, and one major coffee chain has vowed to place its brand right across from its next major competitor in every market possible. -Do we really NEED another coffee shop directly across the street from an existing coffee shop? -Is your life not confusing enough already?

Return for Deposit Disposable Cups?

Here in Canada they are considering making the paper take-out cups that they serve coffee, a ‘deposit’ cup! A proposed (and I believe, laughable) bill to make disposable coffee cups returnable for a nickel maybe, to reduce the garbage in landfills…(?) Or, to induce people to drink the beverage in-house instead of take-out. Drink it from a washable ceramic cup and save a tree. Follow the logic here… what do the coffee shops DO with the used paper coffee cup if it were to be returned? Re-use it? I hope not. Recycle it? We could hope! Send it to …a landfill? Hey wait. Don’t they do that anyway? Or am I missing some esoteric point here. Maybe paying a nickel per paper cup more will induce us to throw the cup into a recycling basket instead of onto the sidewalk? I thought this was called “littering” and that there was currently a City Ordinance against littering already in place, supposedly, carrying a fairly stiff penalty?

Okay, -maybe the universe has stopped expanding and visible matter has collided with that hereto-unseen ‘black matter’ out there and everything is beginning to acquiesce to finitety again. –The ‘Big Crunch’ (the anti-‘Big Bang’) is coming! While ‘deposit’ fees on soda & beer bottles and cans has been a good thing, back in the 1980s in New York State under the Governance of Mario Cuomo, we accepted a five-cent deposit fee on cans and (formerly non-deposit) bottles under the auspices of ‘pollution reduction.’ The new law was sometimes euphemistically referred to as the ‘Cuomo Garbage Law’, and redemption takes place in groceries stores. The same clerks that handle your produce, checkout & bag your purchases are the ones that handle those nasty sticky cans and bottles. Yuck! Let’s hope they wash their hands after each time.

Cans and non-deposit bottles accounted for something like 2-3% of the waste found alongside the State’s highways, while soiled baby diapers and McDonald’s wrappers comprised 5-10% of the roadside waste. –Where is the deposit on those things I ask you? But I’m wired on coffee right now, so let’s stick to that.

My Coffee Prayers Got Answered: Keurig Single Cup Coffee Maker

coffee shop

My Review: Keurig K-Cup Single Cup Coffee Maker

I recently got a Keurig B60 Special Edition Gourmet Single-Cup Home-Brewing System
Here’s my review of the Keurig k-cup coffee machine.

Coffee Prayers Answered!

This coffee maker is the answer to a major coffee problem in my house. I wake up about 3-4 hours earlier than my husband each day and as a result, he either gets stale coffee or I get to make two pots each morning (because the pouty lip and the rave reviews about my coffee’s loveliness get me every time. )

This coffee maker makes a single cup of coffee at a time and perfectly brews each cup with a k-cup which looks like a milk creamer so this resolves several things including:

-getting a fresh cup of coffee
-getting a fast cup of coffee
-getting the exact flavour you want!

The k-cups are easy to use but not so easy to find as they’re not yet available in the grocery stores (from what I’ve seen but I’ve seen them in coffee shops and Home Outfitters) so I’ll likely start ordering them online through Amazon so I can get many flavours such as decaf, breakfast blend, vanilla, chai tea, and more. (Buying two boxes allows me to pay in shipping). Sometimes you feel like a regular coffee and sometimes you feel like a flavoured one so it’s nice to make just a cup at a time, especially if you and your partner don’t feel like the same blend. We can even get it in hot chocolate for the kids.

My favourite is the extra-bold. The aroma fills the house instantly.
I’ve found extra uses for the Keurig coffee machine as well.

1. Make a hot cup of tea with it
2. Get hot water out of it for Cup-A-Soup and instant oatmeal
3. Make hot chocolate with it

You can use your own coffee instead of buying k-cups if you like by using this little doo-dad: Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter .

And, if you want to display your many flavours of coffee and tea on your countertop, you can use the Keurig K-Cup carousel: Keurig 5060 27-Cup-Capacity K-Cup Spinning Carousel, Chrome

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51f83itU0RL._SL500_AA280_.jpg

Seriously, I love this coffee maker! I’m able to get a cup of fresh coffee any time I want. It literally takes less than a minute nd tastes as good as coffee shop coffee. I definitely give Keurig a thumbs up! (I’m pretty anxious for a Starbucks K-cup!)
